Fundamentalism as A Social Movement

Fundamentalism has been one of the most heatedly debated catchword in global poitics for years. Hundreds of essays have been written to depict the phenomenon from myriad of perspectives. More often than not, fundamentalism is merely seen as a religious hatred of Islam communities against secularized civilization championed by the West. Fundamentalism pictured as a particular Islamic movements agaisnt Western domination is indeed one of the widely used approaches in contemporary social analysis. In his essay, Ridwan al-Makassary, himself has spent enourmous times studying Islam politics, tries to use a slightly different outlook.
