Third Party Interventons in Pre-Tsunami Aceh Conflict

bukafe

On Wednesday 26 October 2005, interseksi held a small discussion with selected participants. The topic of the discussion was on the Third Party Intervention in Pre-Tsunami Aceh Conflict. Drawn from her MA thesis in Upsala university, Irene Hiraswati Gayatri delivered her paper which seeks to apply negotiation and mediation theory to the Aceh conflict, in particular William zartman’s approach of “ripe moments”. This is a relatively straightforward idea on the linkage between the theoretical section of ripe moments, and brief description of the Aceh conflict. According to I. William Zartman, the conditions (of ripe moment) might exists, but people do not perceive them—and they might have passed when they do.There also some necessary but not sufficient conditions for ripe moments. Which conditions were met? When? Which were not? Are the indicators for those conditions reliable in the case? Why has perception not evolved?

Convened in Bukafe, Duren Tiga, Jakarta Selatan, the discussion went on discussing on how ex-GAM or Gerakan Aceh Merdeka (The Aceh Liberation Movement) will face new challenges after the so-called Helsinky's memorandum between the Indonesian government and GAM's representative months earlier.
