Mr. Subianto is currently serving as Assistant to the Special Staff of the President of the Republic of Indonesia for International Affairs/Presidential Spokesperson.

Mr Subianto is also a Visiting Lecturer at the Post-Graduate Program at University of Indonesia; the Indonesian Naval Graduate Course; and the Advanced Diplomatic Course (SESDILU) Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to joining the government, Mr. Subianto worked as professional researcher at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a leading think-tank in Indonesia, for eight years. Mr. Subianto also served as the national secretary for the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia and Pacific (CSCAP) Indonesia (1999-2005).

Mr. Subianto received his BA in International Relations from Padjadjaran University (1996, graduated cum laude), and Masters in Political Economy from the Department of Government, University of Essex, UK (1998). He was a Visiting Fellow at Japan Institute of International Affairs (2000-2001), and International Visiting Fellow on Multi-Regional Security, State Department, Washington DC (2001). In October 2003, Mr. Subianto received the Dwidya Sistha Medal from the Commander of Indonesian Armed Forces.

Mr. Subianto has authored/edited numerous books and articles appeared in national and international newspaper. His publications include: A State in the Making: Role of UNTAET in East Timor, project report, to be submitted to the Council for Asia and Europe Cooperation: London, October 2001; Peace Building and State Building in East Timor, co-editors with Dr. Hadi Soesastro (Jakarta: CSIS, 2002); "Indonesia and the UN Missions in East Timor: Roads to the Timor Loro Sa’e’s Independence" in Nassrine Azimi & Chang Li Lin (eds) The United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor: Debriefing and Lessons (Leiden, the Netherlands: Martinus Nijhoff Publishers, 2003); Komunalisme dan Demokrasi (Communalism and Democracy) (Co-editor with Hikmat Budiman (Jakarta: Interseksi, 2003); "ASEAN and the East Asian Co-operation: Searching for a Balanced Relationship", in The Indonesian Quarterly, Vol. XXXI, No. 1, 2003; "The Responsibility to Protect: An Indonesian View", paper presented at the 17th Asia Pacific Roundtable, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 6-9 August 2003; "Small Arms Problems in Southeast Asia: An Indonesian Case", a report of the research project on “Small Arms Trafficking in Southeast Asia: Human and State Security” supported by Asia Centre, the Japan Foundation (published in 2004).

Mr. Subianto is married to Ferial Ghita, and the couple is blessed with one daughter, Taskia Haliza Zahra.
